This Mama wanted a unique and authentic way to capture her family. She chose indoor lifestyle family photos right in the comfort of their own intimate home, followed by a sunset session out on the rolling beautiful hills of Northern California. Doing her family photos in two unique locations showcased a variety of poses, arrangements, backgrounds, and types of photos in her finished gallery. I love that she brought their unique personality into this gallery.
Lifestyle family photos are a timeless and treasured way to capture your unique stage of life. We photographed the family on the living room couch, in the formal music room, by gorgeous windows, and in the sweet little girl’s bedroom. All of this tells the unique story of this family and their connection. It was a privilege to be invited into their home to document these tiny moments that will fade all too quickly! We even had the opportunity to include photos with their sweet companion Westie as well.
After we photographed half of the session in their home, we drove over to one of my favorite photo spots in Palo Alto. Fall is a popular time of year for family photos so naturally the hills have turned a golden brown color.
These parents did an amazing job coordinating for their family photos. I love that Mama dressed herself and her daughter in corresponding pink tones that compliment each other nicely without being overly matchy. Dad looks handsome and classic in jeans and a jacket.
My families are not required to dress any particular way for their family photos, but I do encourage parents to give some thought to what they will wear. Wardrobe really sets the mood of the whole gallery. Family photos are a special occasion so it’s important to be thoughtful and judicious. This is even a perfect opportunity to splurge on a special new outfit that will make you look and feel your best during your family photo session.
This session was photographed on a Canon 5D Mark IV with a 35mm and an 85mm. All photos were edited by hand in Lightroom and Photoshop.
