Newborn Lifestyle Photos at Home

In today’s blog post, I want to feature several families I photographed this Spring. Newborn sessions at home are always so precious, and they’re made all the more meaningful when documenting wonderful families who also trusted me with their maternity photos.

Whenever possible, I highly recommend doing both maternity photos and newborn photos. Newborn photos are so important, so precious, and they happen in such a delicate timeframe. Photoshoots can tend to run a little longer especially because newborns are on their own schedules. I am in family’s homes and sacred spaces, especially in a time where you may be extra tired. That’s why these sessions are so much easier, more relaxed, more comfortable and effortless when we’ve already met and hung out together for maternity photos.

Families feel like they’re visiting again with an old friend, making the experience even more natural and easygoing. Not to mention how much I love seeing how families grow. Ongoing and long-term relationships with clients is really one of the best secret tricks to getting beautiful galleries filled with natural moments. Photographing Babies in Your Home

All of these sessions were photographed right in the homes of my families. I photograph in families homes all throughout the Bay Area and San Jose, from Willow Glen to Los Gatos to Cupertino to Santa Clara. Photos taken within the home are such a unique and intimate perspective on documenting a family. I know these photos will be especially cherished in the years to come because families can look back and see their nursery, their old bedrooms, and how their homes looked in this chapter of life.

I don’t expect my families to clean up their homes or have magazine-worthy mansions to shoot in! I just need big windows with lots of yummy natural light streaming in. We always shoot without any artificial overhead lights turned on, so only the sun provides our source of light.

What to Wear for Newborn Photos at Home

These families all nailed their outfits! My only guideline for newborn lifestyle photos at home is to simply just wear light, neutral clothing. Some of my mamas borrowed some of my dresses, newborn swaddles, and bonnets, and some of these mamas already had light neutral clothes they wanted to wear. You do not have to dress if you don’t want to! Most importantly, wear whatever is comfortable.

Scheduling Your Newborn Photos

If you are considering Newborn Lifestyle Photos of your growing family, I highly recommend reaching out in advance. I do not recommend scheduling photos at the last minute in the postpartum stage when there is already a lot of change happening. By planning in advance, we can have wardrobe, location, time, and a time window narrowed down. Then when baby arrives, you just shoot me a quick message and we confirm the official date of the photoshoot.
