Welcome

Thank you for trusting me to capture your newborn's precious moments. My photography focuses on timeless, authentic, and heartfelt portraits. Each photo I take is honest, intimate, and full of emotion, reflecting the genuine love and joy in your family.

I follow a photography philosophy of baby-led posing. This means every photoshoot is unique because I am responding to the preferences and needs of your unique newborn. My posing style is very organic, with natural & familiar poses, and soft, neutral fabrics.

I am dedicated to showcasing the beauty of your unique family.
Your love is special, heartfelt, and soulful.

I am here to help you share that with the world.

What to Expect

I like to schedule newborn photos in the first two or three weeks after the birth, when babies are still sleepy and curly. I typically schedule photoshoots weekdays in the morning around 10am or in the afternoon around 1:30pm. You are welcome to request additional times if you don’t see them on the calendar.

If you are pregnant, we will pencil in a date as a placeholder in my calendar. We will confirm after the birth if this date is still a good time, or adjust the date forward or back as needed.

Your session with me will be relaxed and easygoing! My goal is to help you feel comfortable and to enjoy a wonderful time with family.

Styling & wardrobe is a foundational element in creating beautiful photos. I will share a Style Guide with tips on what to wear and my favorite stores for buying clothing. I also have dresses and some children’s clothing available to borrow. In general, I just recommend light, neutral, solid clothing. I advise to avoid patterns or dark colors.

Popular months (Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov.) book up about 1 month in advance, so reserve your date early!

Preparation

-Arrive with baby in just a diaper, or a sleep sack. Button up onesies are hard to take off, and will definitely wake up baby if they fall asleep in the car.

-Try to keep your baby gently awake for the hour before the photos. Maybe give them a warm bath, then have a deep feed before heading over to the studio. We want them primed to sleep deeply for their photos.

-I'm fully vaccinated.

-If you are offering a pacifier, please bring it, as it allows for smoother transitions between poses.

Why choose Iris & Lace?

As a fellow mama, I completely understand the beauties (and unique challenges!) of the newborn stage. That’s why I feel it’s so important to invest in an experienced newborn photographer, who has been in your parenting shoes and photographed literally hundreds of other newborns in the Bay Area!

I have over 75 Five Star reviews on Google and hundreds of more happy clients. Head over to my Instagram highlights to see all the sweet texts clients have sent me after the photoshoots!

My in-home studio is located conveniently in the middle of San Jose. By coming to my studio, you don’t have to worry about cleaning your home, the lighting in your house, or figuring out wardrobe. I can fully dress mamas and babies. I have preselected the fabrics and knits that photograph well, and have invested in beautiful designer dresses for mama to wear and feel beautiful.

I recommend choosing me if you are drawn to a modern, organic, lifestyle approach to newborn photography. My galleries don’t have cutesy setups or complicated props in my photoshoots. My styling gravitates towards soft neutral whites and lace or knit fabrics.

I keep things clean and light, so the photos will stand the test of time.

FAQ’s:

Can we bring our grandparents?
I love the idea of bringing grandparents along! It is so important to have photos with multiple generations of family. Just note that there’s a $100 add on for extended family to attend.

Can I have the .RAWs?
.RAW files are muted, dark, unedited files that cannot be printed or posted on social media. They are massive file types that require specific software to process and convert to a usable format. .RAW files are an unfinished product.
You will receive high-resolution, professionally edited .jpeg files that will tell your story beautifully. This is a file type you’ll be able to post online, as well as print.

How long does it take to receive our images?
I typically take around 1 week to deliver images. I rarely ever take a full two weeks. If you haven’t heard from me within two weeks, message me to make sure nothing got lost in the mail!

When should I schedule maternity photos?
I like to schedule around 30-32 weeks pregnant, but not usually much later than 34 weeks. Some mamas, especially mamas of twins or mamas who are showing a little earlier, may opt to schedule earlier around 28 weeks.

How do we book newborn photos in advance, if we don’t know when our baby will be born?
You’ll book an estimated date. I like to schedule newborn photos around 10-20 days after the due date.

I don’t want any of my images posted online. Can you change the contract?
Being able to share my work on my website & social media is how I stay in business.
I never share identifying information, clients names or tag my clients in any images.
I do take a very limited number of bookings per month, so at this time, I’m keeping my calendar available for clients who allow me to share the work that I create.

Can I request additional edits after the gallery is received? // Can you photoshop __?
It depends! I am very good at Photoshop and usually am able to edit things like removing people from the backgrounds, recomposing the subjects within the frame, enhancing sunsets, natural and subtle skin smoothing, etc. I routinely do many advanced photoshop edits without you having to ask!
But some edits are more complex or time consuming, such as headswaps or background substitutions.

I want to make sure you love your final images hung up in your home, but Photoshop work takes a lot of time. If you would like to request special Photoshop edits, I am happy to accommodate basic requests for 3 favorite photos. Additional requests beyond those three complementary photos, or any complex edits, are $5-10 per photo, depending on the nature of the request.

What should we wear?
You will receive a detailed Style Guide after you are booked!

All this sounds great! What should I do next?
Fill out the questionnaire linked at the bottom of my Welcome Email. Once I receive that questionnaire, I’ll send you a link to my booking calendar to schedule your date.
