Mountain View Family Photography at Shoreline Park

This beautiful family is celebrating their sweet one year old daughter’s first birthday this Spring! Can you believe her big soulful brown eyes? These parents were so kindhearted, easygoing, and clearly absolutely smitten with their baby girl! (And who on Earth wouldn’t be!?) It was such a great opportunity to meet a wonderful family and help them celebrate this beautiful milestone in their lives together.

For their session, we headed out to a local park here in Mountain View, California. My sessions always take place at Golden Hour, which is the artistic name for the hour right after sunrise or right before sunset. As the year fades into summer, Golden Hour shifts later into the evening (around 7:30pm), which I understand is late for some sweet babies and their bedtime routine! If you need an earlier Golden Hour session, shooting in the Spring or Fall is likely a better fit for your family.

But fortunately, that wasn’t a problem for this little princess! She was initially a little bit shy with me, but Mamas, don’t worry, that’s normal and not at all a problem! I don’t mind if your babies are shy and a little hesitant. It actually gives me an opportunity to photograph them authentically, especially cuddled up to their mom or dad—their sweet refuge. Don’t worry, I’ve seen it all before.

Another secret that you’d never guess from this gallery is that sometimes this sweet girl was understandably just a tad bit fussy! To be fair, it was pretty windy out and unusually chilly for May. She also understandably wanted to go out exploring rather than posing for the camera! But you can’t tell at all just by looking at these photos. :) So, I tell you this to reassure all the sweet mamas out there who may be worried about whether or not their little ones can “behave” perfectly for a photoshoot. We let the little ones set the pace of the session, take breaks often, and I never force them to do something they simply aren’t interested in doing! You would never even be able to tell that just by looking at this gallery. So don’t worry about that—just come out, love and snuggle your family, and I’ll handle the rest.

I also want to comment on how beautiful their wardrobe is! Picking clothes for a family session is probably one of the hardest things to decide on, when getting ready for a session. This Mama chose a beautiful, flowing dress. Dresses with movement, texture, frills, and lace always add an interesting and appealing energy to photographs. Her dress had small patterns with blue flowers, which corresponded perfectly to her husband and baby’s wardrobe. This is a beautiful palette for complimentary colors without being too matchy. When choosing floral patterns for family photos, it’s best to choose small, subtle prints, rather than large flowers.

This style of photography is known as Lifestyle photography. Lifestyle photography is a blend of documentary photography and Fine Art photography. I focus on capturing more unposed, authentic, organic interactions. During a session with me, you can expect to be asked to snuggle, play, tickle, dance, run around, lay down, even get wet if we’re near a body of water! The artistry of everyday moments is what I seek to capture through my lens.
