Family photos with 1 year old
I probably say this about every single session, but of course I mean it fully and wholeheartedly every time: this might be one of my favorite sessions to date. This sweet mama and I collaborated on several professional projects together and she was an absolutely joy and delight to work with. I recently had the blessing of photographing her sweet family as their sweet little boy celebrated his first birthday.
While initially we discussed doing a mini-session with images of just their son, I really encouraged Mama to take this opportunity to have some beautiful, full family photographs taken. I always encourage my mamas to be in the images as well because it’s such a great opportunity to photograph a special and unique time in their lives, as well! I absolutely adore photographing motherhood. And I’m so thankful for how this gallery turned out! If we’d only photographed the baby boy, we would missed out on this delightful gallery capturing their love, connection, and relationship. So mamas, don’t be shy—step out in front of the camera and capture those moments!
I also recommend the parents to be included in any portraits of a baby because you are far more likely to get beautiful, genuine laughter out of the baby! Babies aren’t particularly keen to sit still and smile at the camera while they are photographed. However, the moment I tell Mommy or Daddy to tickle and play with their sweet child, it is inevitable that the child will erupt with a beautiful natural smile and we can capture much more meaningful images. The interaction is so priceless.
Their wardrobe features a few of my favorite, most recommended pieces. First, a beautiful hat, which always creates visual interest. I also love our baby boy’s sweet little vest and bow tie. He also modeled in a cute little Pilot’s hat because they hope for him to be a world traveler and see our beautiful planet when he grows up. I love that they incorporated a cute wardrobe as well as meaningful props for a theme for his one year photoshoot.
This session was photographed in Mountain View, SF Bay Area, California, with a Canon Mark 5D IV and a 35mm Sigma camera lens. All photos are edited by hand (no presets/actions) using Lightroom and Photoshop. If you like what you see, please save these images to Pinterest!
