Local Women-Owned Businesses Bay Area Moms NEED to Know About

When you buy from a small business, you’re not helping a CEO buy a third holiday home. You are helping a little girl get dance lessons, a little boy get his team jersey, mom and dad put food on the table.

Small businesses are truly the heart of a community. A thriving community is one that is filled with our neighbors turning their passion projects into blossoming businesses. When you shop local, an actual person does a little happy dance, as you keep their dream alive. Shopping locally not only nurtures the community, but it is also better for the environment, supports regional jobs, and invests in entrepreneurship.

The women on this list are our neighbors and friends. Many of them are fellow moms who discovered a passion and turned it into a thriving business. These women are truly experts in their field, and I was blown away by their knowledge, experience, and talents. As you read through this list, I hope you take a moment to support these businesses by checking out their websites, following them on social media, and sharing this page to help spread the word!

Messy Play Kits

I just love this idea so much! Preschool teacher Robin wanted more families to have access to high quality, play-based learning resources for their Little Ones. Her kits are fun and educational for kids, and convenient for parents. Kids ages 3-5 can enjoy sensory bins for open exploratory play, and kids ages 3-8 can enjoy project-based play with their parents. Her kits and trays are perfect for growing minds, and are available as individual purchases or as a monthly subscription. Definitely follow her on Instagram and check out her website for lots of DIY resources for moms.

Woodland Wonders Forest School

Local mom Katerina is the the founder of an outdoor program for inquisitive young minds, that encourages play-based learning in outdoor settings throughout Silicon Valley. After having her own child, she became inspired by philosophy of educator Reggio Emilia and Forest Kindergardens, which holds the child at the center of learning, and she wanted a more inspiring educational environment for her little ones. Woodland Wonders strives to break out of the confines of classroom walls and encourage children to connect with nature and explore their surroundings. And on top of that, the program is very affordable—they only request $20 to help cover materials! Learn more about their amazing program and if it’s right for your Little One!
